You might be the type of person who leaves a little earlier in the morning to stop at the nearest coffee shop and grab a cup of coffee for the commute to work. We wonder why anyone would do this. One reason to avoid coffee shops completely is that you can make your own coffee, great coffee, superior coffee by buying your own bulk coffee beans and roasting them on your own. Another reason not to go to a coffee shop is that you don’t have to deal with coffee shop people.
The service industry is a demanding one with strange hours, low pay and rude customers. And you can bet that they are quick to judge you the second you walk in the door. But there is a good reason for this as the majority of people who go into a coffee shop are literally clueless about the way they act. Here are just a few of the sins committed by coffee customers all over the United States every day.
Talking on the Phone
Talking on your cell phone while ordering your coffee is just plain rude. Unless you are in the midst of a life-saving surgery in which you are giving step-by-step instructions as to how to remove the tumor from the patient’s brain, stay off the phone.
In all honesty, regardless of how important that phone call is, step out of line and go outside when you get a call that you have to take.
When you buy coffee beans and brew your coffee at home, you don’t have to deal with on the phone in line person and you can take phone calls whenever you want because nobody is around to criticize.
Not Listening
Why in the world would you actually listen to what the person at the counter has to say? It’s not like they might be asking pertinent questions or generally concerned about how your day is going. Well, the latter is probably an exaggeration, but you should still treat them like human beings and at least hear what they have to say. This is especially annoying when you are being asked some pretty important questions pertaining to your order yet you are standing there with a dumb look on your face because your mind is somewhere else.
Being Clueless
You are standing there, in front of the line staring at the coffee board wondering what you want to order. You didn’t bother to look at it while standing in line because you were on the phone, and now the people behind you, the barista and the person taking your order are growing quite angry as you try to decide if you want a mocha cappuccino or a caramel latte.
Using the Wrong Terminology
You aren’t at Starbucks, yet you are ordering a Starbuck’s drink in a Starbuck’s size. Also, not all macchiatos are created equal. The macchiato you order at Starbucks is totally different than the one you order at a local coffee shop.
Now, but your own coffee beans and avoid this mess.
